Newport and Cardigan Golf Clubs. |
| Newport
Golf Club |
| The
Golf Club overlooks Newport Bay and is located north of the town
and is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. The course
is sheltered between two hill ranges and the area generally enjoys
a warmer climate compared to many parts of the country as a result
of the Gulf Stream. These aspects are of particular benefit for
winter golf. |

The
Course
Cardigan provides an
excellent test of golf in a magnificent setting against a backdrop
of the River Teifi estuary and the Preseli Mountains.
With undulating fairways, boldly contoured greens and strategically
placed bunkers the course provides a good test for all levels
of golfers. It has hosted the Mid Wales Championships
on a number of occasions and has been the venue of the recent
Welsh Golfing Union championships.
Magnificent stretches of gorse are a feature of the course and
come into play on 15 holes. Situated on gently sloping
soil the course is playable all the year round. Both greens
and tees are supplied with pop-up sprinklers giving a superb
playing surface in both winter and summer.
The course was designed by Hawtree and Son. Off the championship
tees the course measures 6,687 yards (Par 72 SSS 73).
The standard men's course measures 6,426 yards (Par SSS 71)
whilst the ladies course is 5,617 yards long (Par 74 SSS 7)

How
to find the Cardigan Golf Club
Turn left out of Fron Fawr.
At the T-junction turn right onto the A478 to Cardigan and follow
the road until you come to a round-about where you take the third
exit onto the A487 towards Aberystwyth (the Cardigan by-pass).
Cross over the next round-about and take the next left into Cardigan
(Tesco on your left), but just before you enter the town take
the right turn signed Gwbert. Follow the road and shortly
after the road turns 90 degrees right you see the sign to the
Cardigan Golf Club.
